The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is the largest Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) of India. It was established on 27 July 1939 as the Crown Representative's Police and was later renamed as CRPF after the Indian independence in 1947.

The primary role of the CRPF is to assist the state and union territories in maintaining law and order and to provide security in sensitive areas such as insurgency, terrorism, and Naxalism-affected areas. The CRPF also plays a vital role in providing security during elections, VIP security, and disaster management.

The CRPF has around 300,000 personnel and is divided into several branches, including Rapid Action Force (RAF), Special Duty Group (SDG), CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), and several other specialized units. The CRPF also has a training academy in Gurugram, Haryana, which provides training to its personnel in various fields such as counter-insurgency operations, jungle warfare, disaster management, and VIP security.

The CRPF has been involved in several important operations, including Operation Vijay (Kargil War), Operation Parakram (2001-02 India-Pakistan standoff), and Operation Green Hunt (anti-Naxalite operations). The CRPF has also been awarded several gallantry awards, including the Param Vir Chakra, Ashoka Chakra, and Kirti Chakra, among others, for its bravery and valor in various operations.



  • The CRPF has a long and distinguished history of serving the nation. It has been deployed in various conflict zones and areas affected by violence, including Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast region, and the Naxalite-affected areas of central India.
